(RV) Milligan Men's Tennis Sweeps Johnson in AAC Tournament Quarterfinal

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The (RV) Milligan University men's tennis team matched up with the No. 6-seeded Johnson University (Tenn.) Royals on Monday afternoon in Chattanooga, Tenn. at the Champions Club Tennis Complex for the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Tournament Quarterfinal round. The Buffaloes left nothing to the imagination in a simplistic 4-0 win to clinch over the Royals to secure a slot in the Semifinal round.

Milligan snatched the doubles point behind wins in the No. 1 and No. 3 matches, as Martin Mercarder and Michal Curlej won 7-6 (7-4) in the top tilt, before Phil Schollhorn and Gonzaga Lafarga became 6-4 victors in the No. 3 bout. Brayden Kennedy and Tomas Tenil were defeated 6-2 in the No. 2 doubles bout, but MU took the point to lead 1-0.

Then, the Buffs did not drop a match to the Royals in the singles battles. Lafarga took the No. 1 matchup by a 6-4, 6-3 final. He was followed by Curlej in the No. 2 tilt, who was more dominant with a 6-0, 6-3 victory. Then, the No. 4 singles bout that included Mercarder was another easy 6-0, 6-2 triumph en route to a 4-0 sweep of the Royals in the Quarterfinal round.

Earlier in the afternoon, the AAC announced the winners of the End-of-Year awards for 2025-26, The five players listed below were selected to the All-Academic Team:

The Buffs' Champion of Character for the campaign was Brayden Kennedy.

The Buffs will now face off with the No. 2-seeded SCAD Atlanta (Ga.) Bees in the AAC Tournament Semifinal with a chance to earn a trip to the Championship match with a hard-fought win. The match will take place on Tuesday, April 21 at 2 p.m.
