Camp Selected to Helm Milligan's Nationally Acclaimed Men's Soccer Program

MILLIGAN, Tenn. – On Friday, Milligan University Athletics announced the hiring of the new leader of their nationally-ranked men's soccer program, Brad Camp.

"We are excited to welcome Brad to lead our men's soccer program," said Milligan director of athletics David Blackburn. "His commitment to a Christ-centered mission, coupled with his player development and culture building skills, aligns well with our university mission."

Camp joins Milligan after serving as the top assistant at Yale University in NCAA Division I. Camp played a lead role in on field coaching, scouting, and recruiting in his stint in the Ivy League. Yale moved up thirty-four spots in the national RPI and three places in Ivy League standings in Camp's time in New Haven, Conn.

"I am thrilled to be coming home to East Tennessee," Camp said. "I jumped at the chance to speak with Milligan about this position. The history of success, the facilities, and the mission of the university was something that I wanted to be a part of."

Prior to Yale, Coach Camp served as the Head Men's Coach of Colorado Christian University in DII of the NCAA. CCU was a perennial one-win team before Camp took over, but by his second season CCU experienced their first winning season in the program's DII history. The following year in 2021 the program rocketed to double digit wins and finished 10-5-1. In 2022, CCU made the RMAC playoffs for the first time in the program's history, while claiming CCU's best ever win over the #3 team in the nation.

Coach Camp's time at CCU featured several other notable achievements. For example, CCU tied the #12 and #17 teams in the nation during his tenure. They also beat some of the RMAC's powerhouse programs for the first time in twenty years. The program was often ranked in the top ten of their region, and in 2024 they were statistically one of the best defenses in the nation. In 2022 and 2021 Max Collingwood, a four year starter for Coach Camp, was awarded GK of the year and defensive player of the year respectively. Brad was promoted to Director of Soccer in addition to his role as Head Coach before he left Denver.

Brad joined CCU after serving as the assistant coach at East Tennessee State for two seasons, during which he won a regular season conference championship. In his first year, Camp worked under Bo Oshoyini and former Milligan alum David Lilly. He worked closely with the goalkeepers, which included the program's All-American GK that year. The second year saw Brad promoted to help with scouting, specific focus on the backline, and more. ETSU was a combined 18-9-8 in his two seasons in Johnson City.

The Tennessee native Camp also offers other elite coaching experience. He proved successful in the USL2 ranks as a Head Coach. In the summer of 2022, he took the Flatirons Rush to a 7-3-2 record and a trip to the national tournament. In 2016, he served as Head Coach of the Knoxville Force in the NPSL and helped the team make a surprise run to the conference playoffs.

Brad started his coaching career in the youth game. He has served in several roles such as Boys Director of Coaching at FC Alliance, Region III Staff coach in the Olympic Development Program, and countless others.

Education has been the foundation for Camp's success. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in Sport Management from Trevecca Nazarene in 2010. He holds a master's degree and Ph.D. from Middle Tennessee State University in that field of study as well; earning them in 2012 and 2015, respectively. Brad holds national B, C, D, E and Youth licenses in coaching education from the U.S. Soccer Federation. He also holds a GK I, GK II, Director of Coaching, and Performance Analysis diplomas from the United Soccer Coaches.

"I am humbled and honored that Dr. Waers and Mr. Blackburn have trusted me with this program," Camp continued. "I want to say thank you to them, to my mentors that have helped me along the way, to so many former players who have believed in me, and to my family for their support."

Brad is married to Dr. Ellen Camp who practices veterinary medicine in the area. They live in the area with their three young children.

"My journey through college coaching has given me the perspective that your mission is everything," concluded Camp. "At Milligan, I get to work with elite players, compete for championships, and help young men grow in their faith journey. I couldn't write a better job description. I want to create a culture where the players feel the same about their roles on the team."

The Buffaloes look to continue their streak of six straight NAIA National Tournament appearances under the direction of Camp as the 2026 fall begins to enter the horizon.
