BREVARD, N.C. – On Friday, the Milligan outdoor track & field squads sent a major contingent to the Tornado Classic on the campus of Brevard College in Brevard, N.C. A litany of top-three finishes, personal-bests and meet records were achieved by the Buffaloes on Good Friday.
Jade Mansogo got the Buffs' women going in the Long Jump, leaping to a personal-best mark of 5.07m to finish fourth overall.
In the men's 110m Hurdles,
Brayden Simpson set a new meet record with a 14.69 second run to win the event.
Kenny Carlton came across right after him with a 15.29 time in second place, setting a new personal best.
Kaleb Spears notched a season-best 400m time of 49.16 seconds to win the event for the Buffaloes.
In the men's 800m,
Evan Holbrook came away with a personal-best clip and finished as the race's runner-up.
Mick Stokes placed third with a personal-best, as Five of the top seven spots in the race were occupied by Milligan runners.
Sophia Jeffers notched another event win for the Lady Buffs in the 800m, clocking in at 2:24.64 to set a new personal-best time.
Andrew Whaley's 4:18.73 clip in the 1500m helped him close out a top-three finish for Milligan in third place.
For
McKenna Spaulding, it was a top-three finish, as well. She came in third place with a 5:13.25 clip in the women's 1500m.
Joshua Starr,
Daniel Hornbuckle and
Ethan Bennett took the top three spots in the 3000m Steeplechase for the Buffs.
The men's 5000m was won by
Joseph Abbott with a time of 16:07.37. The Buffaloes claimed the event's top three, with
Elijah Gouge and
Dillon Craig rounding out that list.
Patricia Barrera set the meet record in the women's 5000m, clocking in at 18:59.15 to win the race.
Kirsten Geary placed third in 19:19.51 and the Buffaloes had four of the top five finishers in the event.
Trevor Sinard (52.28m) and
Dillon Handshey (47.75m) took the top two spots in the men's Hammer Throw for Milligan.
Annika Hoefler was the event runner-up in the women's Hammer Throw, achieving a season-best 40.72m hurl.
Conner Mowell (2
nd) and
Jay Hunt (3
rd) placed in the top three in the High Jump event.
On the women's side of the High Jump competition,
Hope Arnold claimed second spot with a personal-best height.
Faith Helton came away with a personal-best Javelin toss, reaching 30.23m to win the event for the Buffaloes' women.
Jacob Moore's 4.00m Pole Vault performance was enough to claim the win of the event for the Men of Milligan.
Autumn Stanley's season-best Triple Jump of 9.97m earned her second place in the event.
Zion Reddick's Shot Put distance of 13.70m put him in third spot amongst the list of competitors.
Aleah Soderman clocked a personal-best 200m finish of 26.91 seconds to place third for the Lady Buffs.
On the men's side of the event, Simpson came away in second with a personal-best of 22.22 seconds.
The Men's Discus included
Trevor Sinard's meet record mark of 48.87m to win the competition.
Landry Buckles flung the disc 46.68m to place second and Handshey rounded out the event's top three.
The men's 4x100m Relay, consisting of Simpson, Spears, Carlton and
Hunter Crook concluded their race in second place in 42.59 seconds.
"It was a really good day all the way around," said head coach
Chris Layne. "There were many strong top-three performances, we had a number of PB's and meet records, and there's no question this meet set us up well for the rest of the season."
Milligan's next event will be the Tennessee Invite in Knoxville on the campus of the University of Tennessee on April 10-11.
