OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Milligan University men's and women's tennis teams had a litany of their athletes taking part in the ITA Regional Small College Championships in Owensboro, Ky. at Brescia University on Thursday and Friday.

Milligan's women's singles players were Parker White, Madison Berry, Lee Anne Endler, Melissa Duarte, Lauren Wimmer and freshman Alba Candela. Duarte and Candela were eliminated in the round of 128 at the event, while three others fell in the round of 64, as Berry (2-6, 0-6), White (3-6, 2-6) and Wimmer (0-6, 2-6) were eliminated. Endler did advance to the round of 32, where she was knocked out (1-6, 2-6), after winning a tight battle in the round of 64 (6-4, 6-7, 6-4).

In men's singles, six players played round of 64 matches, and four of them advanced to the round of 32. Michal Curlej (7-6, 2-6, 4-6) and Brayden Kennedy (3-6, 1-6) were dispelled in their first matches, while Tomas Tenil (6-4, 6-3), Martin Mercader (6-1, 6-4), Gonzaga Lafarga (6-4, 6-2) and Phil Schollhorn (6-2, 6-4) moved on to their next battles. Lafarga and Mercader would move forward to the round of 16, while Tenil (4-6, 4-6) and Schollhorn (1-6, 4-6) fell in the round of 32. Lafarga fell 5-7, 1-6 in his final match, and Mercader dropped his 4-6, 4-6.

Milligan's women's doubles pairings, Duarte/Berry, Wimmer/White and Endler/Candela all moved forward to the round of 32. Duarte/Berry won 8-2, while Wimmer/White tallied an 8-1 victory. Endler/Candela had a bye. They then all moved on to the round of 16, as Duarte/Berry were victorious 8-2, Wimmer/White picked up an 8-6 triumph and Endler/Candela took an 8-4 win. Wimmer/White and Endler/Candela were stopped by 8-1 and 8-3 finals, respectively, in the round of 16. Duarte/Berry, though, won in a tiebreak by the final of 8-7 (7-5). They would drop their Quarterfinal matchup by a final of 8-4.

Two of the three Milligan men's doubles pairs won their round of 64 matchups. Curlej/Mercader won 8-6 in the first round, while Lafarga/Schollhorn won 8-3. Tenil/Kennedy lost in a tiebreak by a final of 8-7 (9-7). The No. 1 seeds outdueled Curlej/Mercader by a final of 8-3 in the round of 32, while Lafarga/Schollhorn continued to the round of 16 with a 8-0 sweep. They were then handed an 8-0 loss in the round of 16 by the same No. 1 seed that dispatched Curlej/Mercader.

The Buffs will take part in another tournament style event on Oct. 2-3 in Pulaski, Tenn. at the Farm and Forge Tournament, hosted by Tennessee Southern.
