Sewanee, Tenn. (Oct. 10, 2009) --- The Milligan College women's soccer team tied the Lady Tigers of Sewanee (Tenn.), 2-2, in a double overtime battle Saturday evening. ÂÂ
The Lady Tigers struck in the early minutes of both halves to put the Lady Buffs at a quick deficit. Milligan bounced back in the middle of the second half after a free kick that resulted in a goal from freshman
Sam Barton (Marietta, Ga.). From 25 yards out, Barton sent a rocket that grazed the crossbar and found the back of the net cutting the Lady Tigers lead to one. ÂÂ
Nearing the end of regulation, sophomore
Rachel Martin (Blountville, Tenn.) was taken down in the box resulting in a penalty kick. Former Hilltopper
Kelsey Kind (Johnson City, Tenn.) took the PK for the Lady Buffs and drilled a line shot in the right side of the net notching the game at two goals apiece. ÂÂ
Kind's goal is her second of the season, having scored in similar fashion against King on Wednesday.
Freshman keeper
Heather Crumplen (Courtice, Ontario) recorded seven saves in the contest, while allowing two goals.      ÂÂ
“It was nice to get a result tonight when we were not playing our best,” commented Head Coach
Lisa Buckley. “Sewanee is a good program, and to get this kind of result after being down early really displays the heart and determination of our program.”ÂÂ
The Lady Buffs host Brenau University (Ga.) on Saturday, Oct. 17, for a non-conference matchup beginning at 2 p.m.
