Milligan drops match to Bluefield

Milligan College, Tenn. (Oct. 27, 2009) --- The Milligan College volleyball team fell to Bluefield College (Va.) Tuesday night in a five set AAC road match.

Milligan (14-13, 8-5) trailed early as they lost the first two games 21-25 and 18-25, but bounced back to win the next two 25-18 and 25-22. The Lady Buffs could not hold on though, as they dropped the decider 10-15.

Freshman Chelsea Spivey (Gate City, Va.), who had been battling illness, returned to the court with a career high 48 assists and 11 digs for her seventh double-double of the year. Offensively, Bianca Burnett (Cookeville, Tenn.) recorded 17 kills, while newcomer Kendra Fiddler (Colorado Springs, Colo.) had 15 kills in just three sets. Libero Morgan Rutledge (Kingsport, Tenn.) led the defensive effort with 18 digs.

“It was a tough conference loss,” commented Head Coach Doneva Bays. “Bluefield was scrappy tonight and had more desire to win then we did.”

The Lady Buffs travel to North Greenville University (S.C.) for a non-conference matchup against the Lady Crusaders Thursday, Oct. 29, at 6:30 p.m.
