Milligan College, Tenn. (Oct. 31, 2009) --- The Milligan College volleyball team hosted NCAA Division II Mars Hill Saturday, Oct. 31, for a non-conference matchup. Milligan won the opener, but eventually fell to the Lady Lions by a final of 3-1 (27-25, 12-25, 19-25, 21-25).
The Lady Buffs had six players with double digit digs, as sophomore
Morgan Rutledge (Kingsport, Tenn.) headed up the crew with 16 in the contest. Freshman setter
Chelsea Spivey (Gate City, Va.) led the squad in assists with 43, while also pitching in eight digs. The offensive attack was led by juniors
Emilee Hale (Morristown, Tenn.) and
Bianca Burnett (Cookeville, Tenn.) who recorded 11kills and 10 kills, respectively.
“I think with it being senior night we came out ready to play,” commented Head Coach
Doneva Bays. “After the opening win, we just became complacent and lost our focus. Hopefully, we will learn from today and continue to improve as we close out our regular season.” ÂÂ
With the loss, the Lady Buffs slip to 14-15 overall and 8-5 in the AAC.
The Lady Buffs play host to AAC foe Montreat College (N.C.) on Tuesday, Nov. 3, for their final home match of the season. Action begins at 7:30 p.m. ÂÂ
