Robinson prevails in first meeting with Cavs

Milligan College, Tenn. (Nov. 18, 2009) --- The Milligan College men's basketball team played host to Montreat College Wednesday for their first AAC contest of the year. In his first meeting against his former team, Milligan Head Coach Bill Robinson's Buffs outlasted the Cavaliers 86-69.

“Right now, I'm just glad it's over with,” commented Robinson. “It means a lot more that we got our first AAC win of the season and gets us going in the right direction.”

Milligan came out firing in the opener as they were 17-of-35 from the field in the first half, while they held Montreat to just 32 percent shooting. The Cavs held on keeping it a close contest, until the Buffs hit back-to-back 3-point buckets right before the break to cruise to a 42-27 lead.

After the intermission, Milligan picked up right where they left off to as they maintained a double-digit lead for the entire second half thanks to an impressive 17-of-31 shooting performance from the floor.

The Buffs had five players in double figures tonight, as newcomer Torian Sitton (Hendersonville, N.C.) led all scorers with 19 points. The guard duo of Justin Sylvester (Kingsport, Tenn.) and Bryant Edwards (Tabor City, N.C.) pitched in 15 and 12 points, respectively. Senior Emmanuel Colon (Salinas, Puerto Rico) had a double-double on the night with 12 points and 14 rebounds, while junior Cordero Seymour (Inagua, Bahamas) chipped in 12 points.

“I was really pleased that we were up 15 at the half without Cordero scoring much,” added Robinson. “We had a lot of guys step up and really play big for us. Justin (Sylvester) and Torian (Sitton) played great in their first game at home. I think it says a lot about our program for the future with the young talent we have making an impact right now.”

With the win, the Buffs improve to 1-4 overall and 1-0 in the league, while the Cavs fall to 1-5 overall and 0-1 in the AAC.

Milligan travels to UVA-Wise to take on the Cavs for their first AAC road contest of the year Saturday, Nov. 21. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
