Milligan College, Tenn. (Dec. 2, 2009) --- The Milligan College men's basketball team defeated conference foe Union College in Steve Lacy Fieldhouse Tuesday night with a final score of 97-92 .
The Buffs started the game on a 13-to-0 run that gave them an early lead and gave them the momentum to lead at the half by a score of 42-39. In the second half there were several lead changes before the Buffs managed to hang on down the stretch for the victory. The Buffs capitalized on free throw shooting hitting 40 of their 55 opportunities at the line.
Leading all scorers on the night was junior
Torian Sitton (Hendersonville, N.C.) who tallied 23 points, four rebounds and one steal. Freshman guard
Justin Sylvester (Kingsport, Tenn.) was next in line with 22 points and 4 steals. Fellow guard
Bryant Edwards (Tabor City, N.C.) rounded out the top Buff scorers managing 18 points, five rebounds and two steals on the night.
“It was a war tonight, obviously we shot 55 free throws tonight and had to keep our intensity up the entire game,” commented Head Coach
Bill Robinson. “It was a huge win for us tonight; I thought we played hard for the full forty minutes for the first time tonight."
The Buffs record is now 2-7 overall, and 2-1 in the AAC, while the Bulldogs fall to 4-6 overall and 2-1 in the AAC.
Milligan returns to action, Dec. 4, in Steve Lacy Fieldhouse against former AAC member Covenant College. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.    ÂÂ
