Milligan College, Tenn. (Sept. 15, 2009) --- The Milligan College volleyball team hosted former AAC rival King College (Bristol, Tenn.) Tuesday night in Steve Lacy Fieldhouse. The Lady Buffs fell to the Lady Tornado three sets to none. ÂÂ
The Lady Buffs led for much of the first two sets, but lost to identical scores of 25-21. In the deciding set, Milligan fell behind early but battled late to stay alive but the Tornado took the match as they won the third set 25-20.
AAC setter of the week Chelsea Spivey (Gate City, Va.) led the Lady Buffs in assists with 21, and also pitched in nine digs. Freshman Katelin Henson (Kingsport, Tenn.) saw action as the libero tonight and led the squad in digs with 14. Senior Kalyn Perrigan (Bristol, Tenn.) led Milligan in kills with nine, while sophomore Morgan Rutledge (Kingsport, Tenn.) was a kill behind with eight. Rutledge also chipped in 10 digs.
“Overall I think we played good tonight, however our season motto is if better is possible than good is not enough,” commented Head Coach Doneva Bays. “It was evident tonight that good was not enough. We had moments of brilliance but still have to find the consistency and confidence to terminate balls.” ÂÂ
The Lady Buffs travel to Virginia Intermont (Bristol, Va.) for their first AAC road contest on Thursday, Sept. 17. The match is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.
