Milligan blanks Lady Cobras on the road

Milligan College, Tenn. (Sept. 17, 2009) --- The Milligan College volleyball team defeated the Lady Cobras of Virginia Intermont in three straight sets Thursday night in an AAC matchup. Milligan (5-5, 1-1) won by finals of 25-21, 25-19 and 25-18.  

Leading the Lady Buffs was freshman Chelsea Spivey (Gate City, Va.) who chalked up 23 assists, seven digs and two solo blocks on the night. Offensively, the Lady Buffs were paced by Tennessee High product Kalyn Perrigan (Bristol, Tenn.) who had 10 kills against the Lady Cobras. Freshman Holly English (Kingsport, Tenn.) led Milligan in digs with 12, while sophomore Morgan Rutledge (Kingsport, Tenn.) was a dig behind with 11. Rutledge also pitched in five kills.  

“Tonight definitely came down to us having more efficient hitting and a better blocking effort,” commented Head Coach Doneva Bays. “It was a good team effort tonight.” 

The Lady Buffs travel to Covenant College (Lookout Mountain, Ga.) Tuesday, Sept. 22, for a matchup with the Lady Scots. The match is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.
