Milligan strolls past Lady Bulldogs

Milligan College, Tenn. (Sept. 26, 2009) --- The Milligan College volleyball squad came out firing Saturday in Steve Lacy Fieldhouse as they knocked off Tennessee Wesleyan in three straight sets.

The Lady Buffs took an assertive victory in the first set as they won 25-14, setting the pace for the duration of the match. Milligan won the next two decisively 25-17 and 25-19, respectively.

Freshman standout Chelsea Spivey (Gate City, Va.) led the Lady Buffs in assists with 26, while she also pitched in five digs, a kill and an ace. Former Lady Indian Morgan Rutledge (Kingsport, Tenn.) was back in her usual roll as libero and led the Lady Buffs defensively with 15 digs. Junior Emilee Hale (Morristown, Tenn.) was too much for the Lady Bulldogs as she led all hitters with 13 kills on just 21 total attempts.

“It was a great team win today which will hopefully build some confidence for our squad as we head into a strong conference matchup next week,” commented Head Coach Doneva Bays. “We were able to get quality play out of our entire roster today which was great to see.”

The Lady Buffs play host to the Lady Cavs of UVA-Wise on Tuesday, Sept. 29, in Steve Lacy Fieldhouse. This AAC matchup is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m.
