Kingsport, Tenn. (Nov. 11, 2010) --- The Milligan College volleyball team secured their spot in the AAC semifinals with a 3-1 victory over Reinhardt University and a 3-1 victory over Montreat College on Thursday inside Meadow View Conference and Convention Center.
Against Reinhardt, Milligan came out firing on all cylinders as they pulled out to a 25-18 set victory in the opening set. The Lady Buffs kept the momentum flowing as they took the second set by a score of 25-14. The third set saw the Lady Buffs unable to hold off a Lady Eagle charge, but Milligan rebounded in the decisive fourth set as they took a 25-20 set victory.
Chelsea Spivey (Gate City, Va.) led the Lady Buffs with 33 assists, 15 digs and nine kills.
Kendra Fiddler (Colorado Springs, Colo.) recorded 11 kills, four aces and four blocks.
Morgan Rutledge (Kingsport, Tenn.) led the Lady Buffs with 28 digs, while
Erin Biddle (Newport, Tenn.) and
Bianca Burnett (Cookeville, Tenn.) added 15 digs and 10 kills, respectively.
In the second game, Milligan jumped out to an early lead as they defeated Montreat 25-23 in the first set. The second set saw Milligan hold on against a late Lady Cavalier charge to take the second set by a score of 25-22. Montreat took the third set, but the Lady Buffs secured the match with a 25-21 set victory.
Spivey had 41 assists, while Fiddler led the Lady Buffs with 13 kills. Rutledge had 28 digs, and
Ashley Agin (Atlanta, Ga.) added 18 digs. Burnett had 11 digs and nine kills.
Emilee Hale (Morristown, Tenn.) recorded 11 digs and nine kills in the contest.
The Lady Buffs return to action at 10 a.m., on Friday, Nov. 12, in the AAC semifinals. Milligan will take on Bryan with the winner moving on into the 2 p.m., championship game.
