Milligan drops home opener to CCU

Milligan College, Tenn. (November 12, 2010) --- The Milligan College men's basketball team fell in a close loss to Cincinnati Christian University 83-78 on Friday night inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse in the Buffs' home opener.

The Buffs jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the opening minutes of the first half starting with a quick 2-pointer by junior shooting guard Hudson Fricke (Greenville, S.C.) followed by four points from junior forward Cordero Seymour (Inaugua, Bahamas). The Eagles would bounce back, however, with 10 unanswered points, giving CCU the lead 10-6. The Buffs rallied to regain the lead 12-10 with four points from freshman point guard Kyle Grisby (Charlotte, N.C.) and two points on free throws. After allowing the Eagles to tie the game at 12, The Buffs added to their lead with a 3-pointer from Fricke.

In the closing minute of the half, with the Buffs up 34-32, CCU's freshman guard Jeff McClintic landed a 3-pointer to give the Eagles the narrow lead 35-34 going into the second half.

Seymour, who led the Buffs' offense with 24 points, score the first four points out of the second half, but a 3-point shot from CCU's sophomore guard Josh Reid sparked a seven-point run for the Eagles, giving them the lead 38-42. After a five-point rally, the Buffs tied the game at 48 and then again at 50.

However, the Buffs were never able to take back the lead after that. In the last two minutes, the Buffs, being down 71-78, pulled together a six-point rally to bring them within one point, but the Eagles scored on 2-point field goal from senior guard Chris Scott and would take the rest on free throws, giving CCU the 83-78 victory.

In addition to leading the team in total offense, Seymour also led the defensive attack with 10 rebounds. Sophomore forward Tyler DeVault (Kingsport, Tenn.) was another defensive standout, adding 10 points and eight rebounds.

With this loss, the Buffs fall to 0-3 on the season.

The Buffs return to action against UVA-Wise on Saturday, Nov. 13, inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse. Game time is set for 7:30.
