Milligan volleyball splits at King tri-match

Bristol, Tenn. (Nov. 2, 2010) --- The Milligan College volleyball team split in a tri-match with King College and Concord University on Tuesday afternoon in Bristol, Tenn. The Lady Buffs defeated Concord 3-0 in their first game of the night, but fell 3-1 to King in the nightcap.

In the first game, Milligan took the first set by a score of 25-8, and did not look back as they cruised to the 3-0 victory over Concord. They won the second set 25-15 and secured the victory with a 25-18 third set win.

Chelsea Spivey (Gate City, VA) had 28 assists, four digs, four kills and two blocks. Holly English (Kingsport, TN) led the Lady Buffs with 12 kills, while Kendra Fiddler (Colorado Springs, CO) added nine kills and four blocks. Morgan Rutledge (Kingsport, TN) and Erin Biddle (Newport, TN) had 14 and 10 digs, respectively.

The second game saw Milligan come up short to former AAC rival King. The Lady Buffs took the first set by a score of 25-21. However, Milligan was unable to capitalize on the momentum as they fell 25-13, 25-19 and 25-17 in the next three sets.

Spivey had 27 assists, while Fiddler recorded nine kills and five blocks. Rutledge and Ashley Agin (Atlanta, GA) had 22 and 11 digs, respectively, while Bianca Burnett (Cookeville, TN) recorded eight kills. Emilee Hale (Morristown, TN) added seven kills.

With the split, Milligan moves to 22-12 overall and remains at 10-4 in the AAC.

“I was pleased with how we came out and played in the first game,” Head Coach Doneva Bays said. “I am disappointed that we fell to King, but it is always a great experience to play a team of that caliber.”

The Lady Buffs return to action on Thursday, Nov. 4, when they host North Greeneville University for Senior Night. The game is slated for a 6:30 p.m., start.
