Lady Buffs basketball knocks off Lady Knights

Milligan College, Tenn. (Nov. 30, 2010) --- The Milligan College Lady Buffs hosted the Southern Virginia Lady Knights in Steve Lacy Fieldhouse on Tuesday night, and came away with an 81-55 nonconference victory.

In the first half, Milligan slowly built a 22-8 lead. Southern Virginia closed the gap at the half with the Lady Buffs going into the locker room with a 34-26 lead. The Buffs were led in the first half by Heather Mandela (Fairfax, Va.), who had six points to pace Milligan, and Alisha Mainer (Flag Pond, Tenn.), who pulled down seven boards.

In the second half, the Buffs were able to contain Southern Virginia thru defensive pressure as they held the Knights to 29 points, while adding 47 to their own total. With the defensive pressure and good shooting effort, the Lady Buffs were able to pull away quickly and to keep the game in hand during the second half.

Milligan was led by Mandela's nineteen points and five rebounds. Johneshia Good (Johnson City, Tenn.) added ten points, while Mainer scored seven points and pulled down nine rebounds. Jasmine Jefferson (Elizabethton, Tenn.) and Jaimee Hill (Johnson City, Tenn.) also had seven points apiece.

The Lady Buffs will travel this weekend to Barbourville, Ky., to play in the Lady Bulldog Classic hosted by Union College. Milligan opens the event on Friday, Dec. 3, when they play Tennessee Temple at 6 p.m.
