North Canton, Ohio (November 6, 2010) --- The Milligan College Lady Buffs basketball team finished up the Walsh University Classic with a 81-48 loss against Walsh University in the Walsh University Classic in North Canton, Ohio, on Saturday night.
Walsh struck first with an early 3-point shot from Bianca Hooten, but Milligan quickly answered with a 2-point jumpshot from sophomore guard Jaime Hill (Johnson City, Tenn.). The Lady Buffs would tie the game at 7-7 with a 3-point field goal from junior forward
Ashlee Price (Rogersville, Tenn.) and again at 9-9 with a 2-point field goal from senior center
Heather Mandela (Fairfax, Va.). Walsh, however, found offensive rhythm against the Lady Buffs as they followed up with an 11-point run. At the end of the first half, the Lady Cavaliers led 41-22.
Down 19 points to start the second half, the Lady Buffs were unable to find their own offensive rhythm and never recaptured the lead from Walsh. The Lady Cavaliers would take the 81-48 victory.
Defensively, Mandela recorded eight rebounds while putting up eight points offensively, both of which were game-highs for the Lady Buffs.
“For the second night in a row, we didn't shoot well and we turned the ball way too often,” Head Coach
Rich Aubrey said. “When that happens there is almost no way you're going to score enough points to beat a good team.”
With the loss, the Lady Buffs fall to 1-2 on the season.
For their next game, Milligan travels to Buena Vista, Va., to face Southern Virginia University on Tuesday, Nov. 9. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
