Buffs fall to SWU

Central, S.C. (Nov. 8, 2010) --- The Milligan College men's basketball team fought back from an early deficit, but was unable to pull out the victory as they fell 95-85 to Southern Wesleyan University on Tuesday night in Central, S.C.

The Warriors jumped out to an early 14-4 lead, before the Buffs pulled back within four points with ten minutes remaining in the first half. SWU pulled back out to a double-digit lead, but the Buffs used an 8-2 run in the closing minutes to pull the score to 41-38 at the half.

Milligan took their first lead of the night at 44-43 when Tim Harper (Catawba, N.C) scored off of a Warrior turnover with 18:28 remaining in the game. The Buffs pulled out to a seven point lead, but the Warriors responded with a run of their own to regain the lead. After tying the game at 67 with seven minutes remaining in the contest, Milligan was unable to keep pace with SWU.

Freshman Kyle Grisby (Charlotte, N.C.) led the Buffs with 23 points. Hudson Fricke (Greenville, S.C.) had 18 points, while Cordero Seymour (Inagua, Bahamas) scored 15 points. Harper and Justin Sylvester (Kingsport, Tenn.) recorded 12 and 10 points, respectively.

As a team, Milligan was 33-of-75 (44%) from the floor, and 6-of-20 (30%) from behind the arc. SWU was 32-of-56 (57%) shooting, and 9-of-19 (47%) from the 3-point line.

With the loss, Milligan drops to 0-2 on the season.

The Buffs return to action on Friday, Nov. 9, when they host Cincinnati Christian inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
