Buena Vista, Va. (Nov. 8, 2010) --- The Milligan College Lady Buffs basketball team picked up their first road win of the season on Tuesday night as they defeated Southern Virginia University 74-67 in Buena Vista, Va.
After trailing by as many as 13 in the first half, the Lady Buffs cut the deficit to 38-34 at the break. Milligan came out firing on all cylinders as they raced to a double digit lead in the second half as they outscored the Lady Knights 40-29 in the period to take the victory.
Johneshia Good (Johnson City, Tenn.) led the Lady Buffs with 16 points off the bench.
Heather Mandela (Fairfax, Va.) recorded a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Jaimee Hill (Johnson City, Tenn.) added nine points, while
Victoria Dailey (Knoxville, Tenn.) had six points.
As a team, the Lady Buffs shot 26-of-65 (40%) from the floor, including 7-of-10 (70%) from behind the 3-point line. SVA was 19-of-50 (38%) from the field.
“This was a good tough road contest for us,” Head Coach
Rich Aubrey said. “Southern Virginia played really well in the first half and forced us to respond, and we did so very well.”
With the win, Milligan improves to 2-2 on the season.
The Lady Buffs return to action on Thursday, Nov. 10, when they host NCAA Division II Lees-McRae College. Game time is slated for 7 p.m.
