Milligan basketball falls to Charleston Southern

Charleston, S.C. (Dec. 11, 2010) --- The Milligan College men's basketball team kept pace in the early going, but was unable to withstand a second half charge as they fell 106-61 to NCAA Division I Charleston Southern in an exhibition game on Saturday in Charleston, S.C.

The early going saw the lead swapped between the teams as the midway point of the first half saw the game tied at 16. A steal and layup by Kyle Grisby (Charlotte, N.C.) and layup from Cordero Seymour (Inagua, Bahamas) gave the Buffs a 28-22 lead with six minutes remaining in the period. However, the Buccaneers responded with a run of their own to take a 45-39 lead into halftime.

In the first half, Milligan was 16-of-27 (59%) from the floor, while CSU was 14-of-30 (47%) from the floor.

The second half saw the Buffs continue to fight, but they were unable to keep up with the Buccaneers hot shooting.

Hudson Fricke (Greeneville, S.C.) and Tyler DeVault (Kingsport, Tenn.) led the way with 13 points apiece. Grisby added 11 points.

In the game, Milligan was 22-of-53 (41%) from the floor, while CSU was 37-of-67 (55%) in the field.

The Buffs remain at 3-6 overall.

Milligan will embark on a two-game California road trip this coming week. They open the trip on Tuesday, Dec. 14, when they face Point Loma Nazarene University. Tipoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. PST.
