Lady Buffs prevail on senior night

Milligan College, Tenn. (Feb. 13, 2010) --- The Milligan College women's basketball team prevailed on senior night against the newest addition to the AAC, Reinhardt (Ga.) College, Saturday night in Steve Lacy Fieldhouse by a final of 62-46.

The Lady Eagles started the game with a 16-9 run, with the Lady Buffs being held scoreless for six straight minutes. Victoria Dailey (Knoxville, Tenn.) snapped the scoring draught by hitting a layup in transition from teammate Samantha Blevins (Spruce Pine, N.C.) on a fast break. Just a minute later, Sarah Muniz (Mt. Juliet, Tenn.) hit a 3-pointer to tie the game up at 16 apiece. From there the Lady Buffs went on a 13-4 run to finish out the first half, as they took a 29-20 lead into the locker room at the break.

It was all Lady Buffs in the second half as the Lady Buffs continued to increase their lead. With 3:50 remaining in the ball game, Blevins drilled a 3-pointer to give the Lady Buffs their largest lead of the night, 23 points.

“We got off to a really bad start, but we bounced back,” commented Head Coach Rich Aubrey. “We played with a lot of heart and intensity, and it's great to get a win for Brit (White) and Brittany (Kilgore) on senior night.”

Leading the way offensively for the Lady buffs was Heather Mandela (Fairfax, Va.) with 11 points and 12 rebounds, which is her 17th double-double on the year. Also providing some offense was Alisha Mainer (Flag Pond, Tenn.) and Blevins with 10 points apiece

With the win Milligan improves to 18-10 overall and 10-4 in the AAC, as they safely sit atop the conference rankings. Reinhardt falls to 12-15 overall and 6-7 in the AAC.

Next time the Lady Buffs will be in action is on Wednesday, Feb. 17, against Virginia Intermont. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m., inside of Steve Lacy Field house.
