Mars Hill, N.C. (Feb. 20, 2010) --- Despite the doubleheader sweep the Lady Buffs suffered to NCAA Division II Mars Hill College Saturday afternoon, Head Coach
Wes Holly surpassed the 1,000th game of his coaching career. ÂÂ
Holly owns a career record of 630-361 in his 22 years of college coaching. The Lady Buffs are ranked first in the AAC pre-season polls and are the two-time defending AAC regular season champions. Under the direction of Holly, the Milligan women have finished in the 'Top 3' among the conference standings 18 of the last 22 years.  ÂÂ
In Saturday's doubleheader, the Lady Lions of Mars Hill won the first contest 9-1 and prevailed in game two by the final of 10-2. ÂÂ
Two-time AAC Pitcher of the Year,
Sidney Burns (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.), got the start for the Lady Buffs in the first game. Burns was credited with the loss in five innings of work as she scattered four hits and yielded five earned runs. ÂÂ
Offensively,
Emily Biggs (Kingsport, Tenn.) led the way for the Lady Buffs going 1-for-2 with one RBI.ÂÂ
In the night cap, junior
Ryann Musick (Elizabethton, Tenn.) got the nod for the Lady Buffs as she pitched 2 1/3 innings allowing five runs, four of them which were unearned, and received the loss.
At the plate in game two,
Jessica Fix (Chesapeake, VA) led the way going 2-for-2. Senior
Melanie Strickler (Fall Branch, Tenn.) helped offensively tallying one RBI, while freshman
Morgan Holbrook (Knoxville, Tenn.) also had one RBI. ÂÂ
For the season, the Lady Buffs are 0-2, while the Lady Lions improve to 5-1. ÂÂ
Milligan's next contest will be on Sunday, Feb. 21, on the road against NCAA Division II Brevard (N.C.) College. The first pitch is set for 1 p.m.  ÂÂ
