Athens, Tenn. (Feb. 20, 2010) --- The Milligan College women's basketball team fell to the Lady Bulldogs of Tennessee Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon inside of James L. Robb Gymnasium by the final, 73-63. ÂÂ
Leading the way for the Lady Buffs was
Alisha Mainer (Flag Pond, Tenn.) with 18 points and four rebounds. Also finding double digits was
Ashlee Price (Rogersville, Tenn.) with 15 points, while
Heather Mandela (Fairfax, Va.) racked up 10 points and grabbed eight rebounds.ÂÂ
With the loss the Lady Buffs slip to 11-5 in the AAC and 19-11 overall. The Lady Buffs fall back to a first place tie with Union (Ky.) College heading into the AAC Tournament. The Lady Bulldogs improve to 8-8 in the conference and 14-15 on the year.ÂÂ
“Wesleyan came out and played really hard,” commented Head Coach
Rich Aubrey. “We did not play as well as we have been the last five or six games. In the first half our problem was on the offensive end and in the second half we had problems on defense. We are excited for the tournament and are shifting our focus to preparing for it.”ÂÂ
Milligan's women ended the regular season as co-champions of the AAC for the second straight year and earned the No. 1 seed in the AAC Tournament. ÂÂ
The Lady Buffs next appearance on the court will be Thursday, Feb. 25, inside of Steve Lacy Fieldhouse for the first round of the AAC Tournament. Milligan will take on the winner of Virginia Intermont and Reinhardt College. Tip-off for the first round is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
