Maryville, Tenn. (Feb. 8, 2010) --- The Milligan College men's basketball team ran into trouble as they fell 94-73 in their final road non-conference game to NCAA DIII Maryville College inside Boydson Baird Gymnasium on Monday night.
After falling behind 8-1 to start the game, the Buffs got on their own run sparked by a layup and two steals by
Kyle Donahue (Greeneville, Tenn.) that pulled Milligan back within one point of the Scots. In the next five minutes, the Scots pulled away on a 15-1 run that the Buffs were unable to answer. Milligan tried to chip away at the Scot lead as they trailed 52-26 at the half.
As a team, Milligan shot 10-of-28 (36%) from the field in the first half and were 0-of-6 from behind the arc, while Maryville was 17-of-36 (47%) and 4-of-12 (33%).
In the second half, the Buffs were unable to claw their way back into the game despite shooting 50% (16-of-32) from the field for the half.
The Buffs were led by
Cordero Seymour (Inagua, Bahamas) who had 16 points in the contest.
Marshall Hardy (Kingsport, Tenn.) had nine points, while
Justin Sylvester (Kingsport, Tenn.),
Cameron Stuart (Auckland, New Zealand), and Donahue all had seven points.
As a team, Milligan shot 26-of-60 from the field (43%) and 2-of-14 (14%) from the 3-point line while Maryville was 30-of-70 from the field and 7-of-22 (32%).
With the loss, the Buffs fall to 9-16 and remain at 4-8 in the AAC, while Maryville improves to 18-4 overall.
The Scots were led by Eryk Watson and Greg Hernandez who had 16 points apiece.
Milligan returns to Steve Lacy Fieldhouse on Wednesday night as they host AAC foe Bluefield (Va.) College. The Buffs look to get revenge on the Rams as they fell short 65-62 earlier in the season at Bluefield. Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m.
