Milligan softball drops home opener

Milligan College, Tenn. (March 18, 2010) --- The Milligan College softball team lost their home opener 2-1 in the first game and 8-6 in the second game to NCAA D-II Brevard College.

Sidney Burns (Tallahassee, FL.) got the nod in the first game for the Lady Buffs by pitching seven innings, surrendering six hits, allowing two earned runs and striking out eight batters on her way to the loss.

Leading the way at the plate was Jessica Fix (Chesapeake, VA.) going 1-for-2 with a homerun and knocking in the lone RBI. Melanie Strickler (Kingsport, Tenn.) also went 1-for-3 at the plate.

In the nightcap Ryann Musick (Elizabethton, Tenn.) started on the mound for the Lady Buffs pitching three innings allowing three hits, four runs (three earned), while surrendering five walks. Burns came in when the game was tied in the 6th and pitched two innings allowing three hits and two runs while being credited with the loss.

With the losses Burns falls to 6-3 on the season.

At the plate the Lady Buffs were led by Megan Heaton (Elizabethton, Tenn.) who went 2-for-3 from the plate with four RBIs. Abby Hughes (Rogersville, Tenn.) went 1-for-4 with and RBI and Strickler went 2-for-3 with and RBI and two runs.

With the losses the Lady Buffs fall to 10-5 on the season. The next game will be on Friday at home as they take on new AAC member Reinhardt College. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.
