Milligan routs Colonels in non-conference play

Milligan College, Tenn. (March 23, 2010) --- The Milligan College baseball team herded past NCAA Division III Centre College Tuesday evening on Anglin Field in a non-conference matchup by the final tally of 10-2.

The Buffs opened up scoring in the bottom of the first inning and remained ahead until the visiting Colonels took the lead in the top of the fourth. Milligan would not stay down long, as they used a three-run fourth inning and a five-run sixth inning to pull away from Centre. The Buffs tacked on the insurance run in the bottom of the eighth to secure the win.

Earning the win on the hill for Milligan was senior hurler Frank Newcomb (Knoxville, Tenn.). Newcomb pitched six complete giving up two runs on six hits, with both runs being earned. The right-hander fanned four and only walked one in the effort as he improves to 2-1 on the year.

Offensively, Wesley Jones (Kingsport, Tenn.) sparked the Buffs as he went 4-for-5 on the day with two RBIs and a run scored. Randy Rabon (York, S.C.) went a perfect 2-for-2 with the bat and crossed the plate twice, while Andrew Sims (Johnson City, Tenn.) was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

For the year, the Buffs are 15-8 overall and remain 7-2 in the league.

Milligan completes the series against the Colonels tomorrow with the doubleheader slated to begin at 1 p.m.
