Milligan softball triumphs in extra innings

Milligan College, Tenn. (March 31, 2010) --- The Milligan College softball team played a doubleheader at Anglin Field against NCAA Division II North Greenville University (S.C.) and won both games in extra innings 2-1, and 3-2.

Junior Ryann Musick (Elizabethton, Tenn.) got the starting nod for the Lady Buffs and threw six and two thirds innings, allowing two hits, one run, and striking out eight batters on her way to picking up the victory.

Offensively, leading the Lady Buffs at the plate were Morgan Holbrook (Knoxville, Tenn.) who went 2-for-4 with and RBI, while Emily Biggs (Kingsport, Tenn.) went 1-for-3 with the game-winning RBI in the bottom of the eighth inning.

The starting pitcher in the nightcap was Sidney Burns (Tallahassee, Fla.) who threw all eight innings, allowing nine hits, two runs, while striking out five on her way to the victory.

Helping knock the runs across the plate were Burns who went 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Jessica Fix (Chesapeake, Va.) went 1-for-3 with the game-winning two-run double in the bottom of the eighth inning.

With the sweep the Lady Buffs improve to 16-9 overall.

The Lady Buffs will travel to Bluefield College to play their next game on Friday, April 2. First pitch is set for 12 p.m.
