Buffs struggle against Cumberland

Lebanon, Tenn. (April 28, 2010) --- The Milligan College baseball team dropped both games of the doubleheader Wednesday afternoon to Cumberland (Tenn.) University in the non-conference matchup against the Bulldogs. The Buffs fell in Game 1 by the final of 5-4 and 9-2 in the nightcap on Ernest L. Stockton Field.

Earning the loss in the opener was senior Adam Lawrimore (Johnsonville, S.C.) in 1.1 innings of work. Lawrimore gave up two runs on two hits, one of which was earned. For the year, Lawrimore slips to 1-2.

Senior Eric Oxley (Ardmore, Tenn.) led the way offensively going 4-for-6 in the ball game with two runs scored.  Todd Caldwell (Johnson City, Tenn.) was 2-for-5 with a RBI, while Brett Maddox (Lake Butler, Fla.) was 2-for-6 with a run scored.

In the nightcap, LA Owens (Dillon, S.C.) was credited with the loss in four complete innings. Owens scatted seven hits in the outing while yielding eight runs, six of which were earned. For the season, Owens drops to 3-3 overall.

Oxley kept up the offensive fervor in the second game going 1-for-3 with a run scored and two RBIs. Maddox was 1-for-3, while senior outfielder Randy Rabon (York, S.C.) was 1-for-2.

For the year, the Buffs slip to 28-17 overall and remain at 16-8 in the league.

Milligan travels to Bluefield, Va., to take on the Rams of Bluefield College as they wrap up their AAC regular season play. The first game of the doubleheader is set for Saturday, May 1, at 1 p.m.
