Georgetown, Ky. (Sept. 11, 2010) --- The Milligan College volleyball team finished the second day of the Rumpke Invitational in Georgetown, Ky., on Saturday with a 1-1 record as they recorded a 3-0 win over Cumberland University but fell 3-1 to Cornerstone University (
Grand Rapids, Mich.).
In the first game, the Lady Buffs came up short against Cornerstone. The Lady Buffs fell 25-19 in the first set and 31-29 in the second set. Milligan bounced back as they took the third set 25-21, but was unable to take the fourth set as they fell 25-15.
Chelsea Spivey (Gate City, Va.) had 37 assists and six digs for the Lady Buffs, while
Kendra Fiddler (Colorado Springs, Colo.) had 10 kills.
Bianca Burnett (Cookeville, Tenn.) had 11 digs and 10 kills. Former Dobyns-Bennett standout
Morgan Rutledge (Kingsport, Tenn.) led Milligan with 16 digs.
In the second game, Milligan came out on top of Cumberland 3-0. The Lady Buffs took the first and second games by scores of 25-19 and 25-15 before securing the victory with a 25-10 in the third set.
Rutledge had 14 digs and 10 digs, and Spivey had 29 assists. Fiddler had nine kills and four blocks, while Burnett added 10 digs and seven kills.
Fiddler was named to the All-Tournament team. ÂÂ
The Lady Buffs move to 9-4 on the year.
Milligan returns to action when they travel to Athens, Tenn., for a conference match with Tennessee Wesleyan. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m.
