Harper sends Milligan basketball past Bryan

Dayton, Tenn. (Jan. 12, 2011) --- The Milligan College men's basketball capitalized on a pair of free throws from Tim Harper (Catawba, N.C.) in the closing seconds to take a 67-66 victory over AAC foe Bryan College on Wednesday evening in Dayton, Tenn.

The first half saw Milligan keep pace with the Lions, but Bryan took a 32-24 lead into halftime. The Buffs began their rally in the second half as they outscored Bryan 43-34 in the period. With Milligan trailing 66-65 with 10 seconds left in the game, Harper drained both free throws to give Milligan the slim lead. The Buffs defense kept the Lions from getting a successful shot off, and Tyler DeVault (Kingsport, Tenn.) pulled down a defensive rebound to secure the game.

Hudson Fricke (Greeneville, S.C.) led the way with 16 points, while Harper ended the game with 15 points and five assists. Former Dobyns-Bennett standout Justin Sylvester (Kingsport, Tenn.) had 13 points and nine rebounds while Marshall Hardy (Kingsport, Tenn.) had eight points.

As a team, the Buffs were 26-of-55 (47%) from the field and 5-of-14 (35%) from behind the arc. Bryan was 26-of-68 (38%) from the floor and 1-of-9 (11%) from behind the 3-point line.

With the win, Milligan improves to 6-9 overall and 2-1 in AAC action.

The Buffs return to action on Saturday, Jan. 15, when they travel to Bristol, Va., to face Virginia Intermont inside the Cobra Den. Tipoff is slated for 7:30 p.m.
