Milligan College, Tenn. (Jan. 22, 2010) --- The Milligan College men's basketball team came out of the gate firing on all cylinders on Saturday as they defeated Montreat College 63-45 in AAC action inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.
The Milligan men quickly took control of the game as they raced out to an 8-0 lead in the opening minutes.
Justin Sylvester (Kingsport, Tenn.) scored 12 early points, and the Buffs turned that into a 23-6 lead at the midpoint of the half. The Cavaliers tried to cut the gap, but the Buffs head a 30-16 advantage with 5:23 remaining. However, Milligan kept their lead into double digits at the half as they led 34-24.
The second half saw the Buffs slowly add to their lead as
Hudson Fricke (Greeneville, S.C.) drained a 3-pointer at the 13 minute mark to give Milligan a 48-35 lead. From that point, Milligan continued to slowly build their lead until the final buzzer.
Sylvester led the team with 23 points, while
Cordero Seymour (Inagua, Bahamas) added in 15 points.
Tim Harper (Catawba, N.C.) and
Hudson Fricke (Greeneville, S.C.) scored eight points apiece.
The Buffs were 25-of-48 (52%) from the floor and 4-of-14 (28%) from the 3-point line. Montreat was 15-of-49 (30%) and 2-of-14 (14%) from behind the arc.
With the win, Milligan improves to 5-1 in AAC action and 9-9 overall.
The Buffs return to action on Monday, Jan. 24, when they host Tennessee Temple in the season's final nonconference matchup. Tipoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.
