Lady Buffs basketball pulls away from Bryan

Dayton, Tenn. (Jan. 12, 2011) --- The Milligan College women's basketball team picked up their second straight Appalachian Athletic Conference victory as they took an 88-78 victory over Bryan College on Wednesday afternoon in Dayton, Tenn.

The Lady Buffs quickly jumped out to an 8-2 lead with 3-pointers from Kayla Kelly (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and Johneshia Good (Johnson City, Tenn.). The Lady Lions came back to tie the game at 10 points apiece midway through the half. However, Milligan outscored Bryan 26-17 in the remainder of the period to take a 41-32 lead into the locker room at half time.

The second half saw the Lady Buffs slowly add to their lead as they lead by as many as 24 points in the final period.

Good led Milligan with 22 points. Heather Mandela (Fairfax, Va.) recorded her tenth double-double of the season with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Kelly added 14 points, while Dorian Freeman (Augusta, Ga.) tossed in 12 points.

As a team, the Lady Buffs were 31-of-66 (47%) from the floor and 12-of-20 (60%) from the 3-point line. Bryan was 29-of-70 (41%) from the field and 7-of-21 (33%) from behind the arc.

With the win, Milligan improves to 13-5 overall and 2-1 in the AAC.

The Lady Buffs return to action on Saturday, Jan. 15, when they travel to Bristol, Va., for an AAC showdown with Virginia Intermont. Tipoff is slated for 5:30 p.m., inside the Cobra Den.
