Lady Buffs basketball falls on the road

Bristol, Va. (Jan. 15, 2011) --- The Milligan College Lady Buffs basketball team came up short on Saturday night as they fell 75-70 to Virginia Intermont inside the Cobra Den in Bristol, Va.

The first half saw the Lady Buffs stay with the Lady Cobras as neither team could build an advantage. Virginia Intermont used a late run to take a 38-31 lead into halftime.

The Lady Buffs fought hard to close the deficit. They pulled within three points in the closing minutes, but were unable to jump back in front.

Milligan was led by Alisha Mainer (Flag Pond, Tenn.), who had 23 points and 16 rebounds. Johneshia Good (Johnson City, Tenn.) recorded 17 points, while Heather Mandela (Fairfax, Va.) had 11 points.

As a team, Milligan was 20-of-58 (34%) from the floor and 10-of-28 (36%) from the 3-point line. The Lady Cobras were 26-of-61 (43%) from the field and 10-of-17 (58%) from behind the arc.

With the loss, Milligan falls to 13-6 overall and 2-2 in AAC action, while Virginia Intermont improves to 8-12 overall and 1-3 in conference play.

The Lady Buffs return to action on Monday, Jan. 17, when they host Alice Lloyd College inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse. Tipoff is slated for 5:30 p.m.
