Montgomery, Ala. (Jan. 29, 2010) --- The Milligan College baseball team came up short in two games on Saturday afternoon as they opened the 2011 season in Montgomery, Ala. The Buffs fell 13-3 to Auburn University of Montgomery in the first game, and then narrowly fell to Lindenwood University 4-3 in the second game of the day.
In the first game, the Buffs hung on for most of the game, but were unable to overcome a six run inning by the Senators. In the game,
Kyle Kolat (South Bend, Ind.) and
Dustin Ford (Jonesborough, Tenn.) were both 2-of-3 from the plate.
LA Owens (Dillon, S.C.) received the loss on the mound.
The second game saw Milligan hang tough with Lindenwood, but they were unable to jump into the lead. Kolat was 1-for-1 with two runs scored and two runs brought in. Ford was 2-for-4, while
Cody Hyder (Johnson City, Tenn.) was 1-for-3 including a double.
Jason Trivett (Bristol, Tenn.) was handed the loss on the mound.
“We just didn't play our best ball today,” Head Coach
Nathan Meade said. “We didn't play fundamentally sound baseball and we made too many mental errors. We did some things well, and it is early in the season. The season is not a sprint, but a marathon so we will go back to the drawing board and get to work.”
The Buffs return to action on Sunday, Jan. 30, when they play two more games in Montgomery, Ala. Milligan will square off against LSU-Shreveport and Faulkner University with game times set for 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m., respectively.
