Milligan baseball pulls away from Emory & Henry

Milligan College, Tenn. (Feb. 23, 2011) --- The Milligan College baseball team used a six run inning in the bottom of the eighth to pull away and take an 11-4 victory over NCAA Division III Emory & Henry on Wednesday afternoon at Anglin Field.

Luke Kirk (Gate City, Va.) took advantage of an errant Wasp pitch to score the first run of the game in the bottom of the second. Junior Kyle Kolat (South Bend, Ind.) gave Milligan a 2-0 lead after the third with a solo homerun.

After a scoreless fourth inning, Dustin Ford (Jonesborough, Tenn.) scored from second base off of a Cory Hilton (Johnson City, Tenn.) double. The Buffaloes added two more runs in the sixth and six runs in the eighth, including a three run homerun by Hilton, to secure the 11-4 victory.

Kirk ended the game 3-for-5 with two RBIs. Hilton recorded a 2-for-5 performance at the plate with four RBIs and a homerun, while Kirk had a 2-for-5 performance with three RBIs and a homerun.

On the mound, Sean Robinson (Knoxville, Tenn.) got the start and the win. He allowed nine hits and four runs, and struck out five Wasp batters.

With the win, Milligan improves to 3-12 on the season.

The Buffaloes return to action on Saturday, Feb. 26, when they kick off a weekend series with former AAC foe UVA-Wise with a doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m., at Anglin Field.
