Milligan College, Tenn. (Oct. 13, 2011) --- The Milligan College volleyball team came up short on Thursday evening as they fell 3-1 to Mars Hill College in nonconference action during the fourth annual Dig for the Cure event inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.

  The first set saw neither team able to pull away from the other, but a late Lady Lions charge gave them a 26-24 set victory. After falling behind early in the second set, Milligan rallied to take a lead in the second. However, they were unable to hold on as they fell 38-36. The Buffaloes used an early 10-2 run in the third set to take a 25-18 victory. However, Mars Hill captured a 25-19 set victory in the decisive fourth set.

Chelsea Spivey (Gate City, Va.) recorded her 15
th double-double of the season with 57 assists and 10 digs. Senior
Morgan Rutledge (Kingsport, Tenn.) had 32 digs, while
Holly English (Kingsport, Tenn.) had 17 digs and 11 kills.
Rachel Renville (Broomfield, Colo.) had 15 kills, and
Kendra Fiddler (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and
Kylie Whaley (Maryville, Tenn.) had 12 kills apiece.
Katelin Henson (Kingsport, Tenn.) had 11 digs on the night.

  “Overall, I am pleased with our level of play,” Head Coach
Doneva Bays said. “I am not content with the loss, but I am proud of how hard and how well we played.”

  With the loss, Milligan falls to 8-14 on the year.

  The Buffaloes return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 18, when they travel to Jefferson City, Tenn., to face NCAA Division II Carson-Newman College. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m.
