Buffaloes women's soccer tames Bryan

Milligan College, Tenn. (Oct. 19, 2011) --- The Milligan College women's soccer team picked up a crucial 2-1 AAC victory over Bryan College on a rainy Wednesday night at Anglin Field.

The Buffaloes opened the scoring in the game's 15th minute when Gretchen Allie (Charlotte, N.C.) outran a Bryan defender to score. Neither team was able to score for the remainder of the half as Milligan took a 1-0 victory into half time.

As the rain continued to fall in the second half, Rachel Martin (Blountville, Tenn.) gave Milligan a 2-0 lead when she found the back of the net off of an assist from Jacklyn Orange (Bagdad, Ky.). The Lady Lions responded when Ashley Sisk scored in the 65th minute, but the Buffaloes defense kept Bryan off the board to secure the victory.

As a team, the Buffaloes outshot Bryan 20-5 and held an 11-4 shots on goal advantage.

“It was a good result,” Head Coach Lisa Buckley said. “We let them sneak back into it, and we can't do that. It feels good to get another win in conference and keep ourselves in contention for the number one spot.”

With the win, Milligan moves to 5-1 in AAC action and 8-5-1 overall. The Buffaloes are a half game back from AAC leader Reinhardt, who has a 5-0 record in conference play.

Milligan returns to Anglin Field on Saturday, Oct. 22, when they host former AAC member Covenant College. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
