Milligan volleyball falls in heartbreaker to Montreat

 Montreat, N.C. (Oct. 25, 2011) --- The Milligan College volleyball team came up short on Tuesday night as they fell 3-2 to Montreat College in AAC action in Montreat, N.C.
 
   The Buffaloes jumped out of the gate strong as they ran to a 25-15 set victory in the first game. Montreat bounced back to take the second set by a score of 25-16, and then edged Milligan 26-24 in the third set. The fourth set was a back and forth battle, but the Buffaloes took a late lead to take the set 25-22. In the decisive fifth set, Milligan battled back to take a 16-15 lead, but Montreat rallied to take the set and match by a score of 20-18.
 
   AAC Hitter of the week Kendra Fiddler (Colorado Springs, Colo.) recorded 16 kills, four solo blocks and three block assists, while AAC Libero of the week Morgan Rutledge (Kingsport, Tenn.) had 28 digs. Chelsea Spivey (Gate City, Va.) had 40 assists. Kylie Whaley (Maryville, Tenn.) and Holly English (Kingsport, Tenn.) had 13 and 12 kills, respectively. Kaitlyn Qualls (Colorado Springs, Colo.) tallied up 21 digs, and Katelin Henson (Kingsport, Tenn.) had 16 digs. Qualls also had four service aces in the match.
 
   “We played with a lot of heart and pride,” Head Coach Doneva Bays said. “It was a hard fought loss, but we just couldn't string two good plays at the end to win it. I am very proud of how we played on the road.”
 
   With the loss, Milligan falls to 7-6 in AAC action and 9-16 overall.
 
   The Buffaloes return home on Friday, Oct. 28, to kick off a pivotal two-game AAC home stand against Bryan College. Game time inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse is slated for 6:30 p.m.
