Daytona Beach, Fla. (Nov. 5, 2011) --- The Milligan College men's basketball team stayed with the No. 8 Embry-Riddle Eagles for a majority of the game, but a late run saw the Buffaloes fall 95-72 in Daytona Beach, Fla., on Saturday night.
ÂÂ
Embry-Riddle came out of the gate on fire as they jumped out to a 24-8 lead in the first 10 minutes of the game. However, Milligan continued to claw away at the Eagles lead as freshman
Jordan Cross (Blountville, Tenn.) cut the gap to 28-20 with 9:21 remaining in the first half. The Eagles, however, ran back out to a double digit lead, before
Kyle Grisby (Charlotte, N.C.) drained a jumpshot to pull the Buffaloes within six points. A late Eagles run gave them a 43-34 lead at the break.
ÂÂ
The second half continued to see the Buffaloes and Eagles trade runs as Milligan was unable to cut the gap for the first 10 minutes of the second half. Another Cross 3-pointer capped off a Milligan run that pulled them to 67-61 with seven minutes left in the game. However, that was as close as the Buffaloes could get for the remainder of the game.
ÂÂ
Grisby ended the game with 17 points. Cross had 15 points, and
Tyler DeVault (Kingsport, Tenn.) and
Torian Sitton (Hendersonville, Tenn.) had eight points apiece.
ÂÂ
The Buffaloes fall to 1-2 with the loss.
ÂÂ
Milligan returns to action on Friday, Nov. 11, as they travel to East Carolina University. Game time in Greenville, N.C., is slated for 7 p.m.
