Milligan College, Tenn. (Feb. 12, 2011) --- The Milligan College men's basketball team made a late charge, but was unable to overcome a double-digit deficit as they fell 75-68 on Saturday afternoon inside Steve Lacy Fieldhouse.
The opening minutes of the game saw neither team able to create a sizable advantage. Milligan had a 9-8 lead five minutes into the game, and saw that turn into a tie at 14 all at the midpoint of the half. The remainder of the half saw Union take the advantage, and slowly add to their lead as they took a 31-23 lead into halftime.
The Bulldogs opened the second half on a roll as they used a 7-0 run to take the game's first double-digit lead.
Tim Harper (Catawba, N.C.) drained a 3-pointer to cut the Union lead back to 10 points, but the Bulldogs fought back to a 15 point lead with 13 minutes remaining in the game.
The Buffaloes slowly chipped away at the Union lead, and
Hudson Fricke (Greeneville, S.C.) drained a 3-pointer to spark a 9-1 run that closed the gap to three points with three minutes remaining. After Union responded on the other end, Harper and Fricke scored on consecutive possessions to pull within one point with just over two minutes left. However, the Buffaloes were unable to get back in front in the final minute.
Cordero Seymour (Inagua, Bahamas) scored 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
Justin Sylvester (Kingsport, Tenn.) and Fricke recorded 11 points apiece.
As a team, Milligan was 24-of-68 (35%) from the floor and 7-of-34 (21%) from the 3-point line. Union was 30-of-63 (48%) from the field and 3-of-10 (30%) from behind the arc.
Milligan drops to 14-11 overall and 10-2 in the AAC.
The Buffaloes return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 16, when they travel to Montreat, N.C., for an AAC matchup with the Montreat Cavaliers. Tipoff is slated for 7:30 p.m.
