Milligan College, Tenn. (Feb. 15, 2011) --- The Milligan College softball team split a doubleheader with former AAC foe UVA-Wise on Tuesday afternoon at Anglin Field. The first game saw the Buffaloes fall 4-0, but Milligan bounced back to take the second game by a score of 6-2.
In game one, the Lady Cavs broke a scoreless game as they tacked on two runs in the fourth inning. They added to their advantage to the sixth, and the Buffaloes were unable to catch up.
Chancli Connaster (Maryville, Tenn.) was handed the loss. In four innings of work, Connaster allowed four runs and three hits.
Sidney Burns (Tallahassee, Fla.) got the nod in the pitching circle, and came away with a no decision.
Jessica Fix (Chesapeake, Va.),
Krista Lambdin (Knoxville, Tenn.), Abbey Hughes (Rogersville, Tenn.) and
Dana Lefler (Mt. Juliet, Tenn.) all recorded a hit for Milligan.
The second game saw Milligan jump out early with four runs in the first inning, and added two more in the second inning. The Lady Cavs got on the board with two runs in the third, but the Buffaloes hung on for the victory.
Burns went the distance as she gave up five hits and two runs in the game to take the victory.
At the plate, Lambdin was 3-for-4, while Maleh Wolfenbarger (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Connaster were both 2-for-3.
Megan Heaton (Elizabethton, Tenn.) and Fix both recorded two RBIs.
Milligan moves to 1-3 on the season.
The Buffaloes return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 16, as they travel to Brevard College for a nonconference matchup. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
