Central, S.C. (Feb. 16, 2011) --- The Milligan College baseball team saw a late rally fall short on Wednesday afternoon as they fell 10-6 in a nonconference game against Southern Wesleyan University in Central, S.C.
SWU jumped out to a 2-0 lead after three innings. The top of the fourth saw the Buffaloes get on the board as Corey Hilton (Johnson City, Tenn.) and
Luke Kirk (Gate City, Va.) cross the plate. However, the Warriors answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth, and ran out to a 10-2 lead entering the final inning. Milligan started a late rally, but was unable to keep it going as they could only put four runs on the board in the final inning.
Hilton led the way for Milligan at the plate with a 4-for-5 and two RBI performance.
Tyler Hutson (Church Hill, Tenn.) was 3-for-4, while Kirk ended the game 2-for-5 and an RBI.
Dustin Ford (Jonesborough, Tenn.) recorded two RBIs in the game.
Sean Robinson (Knoxville, Tenn.) got the nod on the mound for the Buffaloes and was handed the loss. In five innings of work, Robinson allowed nine hits and four earned runs.
Milligan falls to 2-9 on the season.
The Buffaloes return to action on Saturday, Feb. 19, when they host Shawnee State for a weekend series. The first pitch in Saturday's nine-inning contest is slated for 3 p.m.
