Buffaloes baseball falls in home opener

Milligan College, Tenn. (Feb. 19, 2011) --- The Milligan College baseball team came up short in their first home game of the season as they fell 8-2 to Shawnee State on Saturday at Anglin Field.

The Buffaloes struck first getting onto the board with two runs in the first inning. Corey Hilton (Johnson City, Tenn.) knocked in the first run of the game with an RBI double to start the scoring.

The Bears would answer back in the top of the third scoring two runs of their own after a Milligan error in the field. Shawnee would take the lead in the fifth after another error by the Buffaloes and would tack on four more runs in the sixth to bring the score to its final count. Milligan committed four errors total in the game.

Jordan Rawlyk (Saskatoon, Canada) got the nod on the hill for Milligan and was handed the loss after pitching five and a third innings, giving up six hits and striking out seven.

The Buffaloes were led at the plate by Hilton who finished the day 2-for-4 with the one RBI and Luke Kirk (Gate City, Va.) who finished 2-for-3 with one run and one walk.


With the loss, the Buffs fall to 2-10 overall.

Milligan returns to action on Sunday, Feb. 20, when they host a doubleheader with Shawnee State. Game time is slated for 1 p.m.
