Milligan College, Tenn. (Feb. 19, 2011) --- The Milligan College baseball team fell in two games to Shawnee State University on Sunday afternoon at Anglin Field. The Buffaloes fell 5-1 in the day's first game and 12-8 in the second game.
Milligan got their lone run off of
Tyler Hutson's (Church Hill, Tenn.) solo homerun in the second inning. However, the Buffaloes were unable to answer runs by Shawnee State in the late going.
Luke Kirk (Gate City, Va.) and Hutson led the way at the plate with a pair of 2-for-3 performances.
Kyle Kolat (South Bend, Ind.) and
Cory Hilton (Johnson City, Tenn.) were both 1-for-3.
NAIA Preseason All-American
Jason Trivett (Bristol, Tenn.) got the nod on the mound, and was handed the loss in six innings of work. Trivett gave up six hits and two runs in the contest.
The second game saw the Buffaloes tie the game at two runs apiece after the second inning, but Milligan was unable to keep up with Shawnee State's offensive production in the closing innings. The Buffaloes made a late run with four runs in the final inning, but it was not enough to catch up with the Bears.
Hilton led Milligan at the plate as he recorded a home run and three RBIs.
Wesley Jones (Kingsport, Tenn.) was 3-for-4, while Roark was 2-for-3.
LA Owens (Dillon, S.C.) was handed the loss on the mound for Milligan.
Milligan moves to 2-12 on the season.
The Buffaloes return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 23, when they host Emory and Henry at Anglin Field for a pair of games. The first pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
