Buffaloes baseball opens AAC play with sweep

Milligan College, Tenn. (Mar. 12, 2011) --- The Milligan College baseball team opened up their AAC slate with a pair of wins over Bluefield College on Saturday afternoon at Anglin Field. The Buffaloes took the first game 1-0 before using a late rally to take a 6-5 victory in the second game.

In the first game, NAIA Pre-Season All-American Jason Trivett (Bristol, Tenn.) got the start on the mound. Trivett gave up just one hit and struck out eight batters as he went the full seven innings.

At the plate, Corey Hilton (Johnson City, Tenn.) drove in Tyler Hutson (Church Hill, Tenn.) for the game's only run. Luke Kirk (Gate City, Va.) also got a hit in the contest.

The second game saw Kyle Kolat (South Bend, Ind.) hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth to propel the Buffaloes to victory.

Kolat was 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs. Ryan White (Knoxville, Tenn.) was 2-for-3 with two doubles, while Wesley Jones (Jonesborough, Tenn.) was also 2-for-3 with a double and single. Kirk recorded a hit in the second game to extend his hitting streak to 18 games.

With the pair of victories, Milligan improves to 9-13 overall.

The Buffaloes return to action on Sunday, March 13, as they host Bluefield for a nine inning contest. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
