Brevard, N.C. (Mar. 23, 2011) --- The Milligan College baseball team picked up a pair of nonconference victories over NCAA Division II Brevard College on Wednesday afternoon in Brevard, N.C. The Buffaloes won the first game 16-4 in five innings, and took the second game by a score of 6-4.
In the first game, the Milligan offense cranked out five runs in the first inning, and then added 11 more in the third to cruise to the victory. At the plate, Corey Hilton (Johnson City, Tenn.) was 2-for-4 with three RBIs, while
Tyler Hutson (Church Hill, Tenn.) and
Ryan White (Knoxville, Tenn.) were both 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
Luke Kirk (Gate City, Va.) and
Kyle Kolat (South Bend, Ind.) recorded two RBIs apiece.
On the mound,
Tyler Walker (Anaheim Hills, Calif.) got the start and the win for the Buffaloes. In four innings of work, Walker allowed one earned run on four hits.
The day's second game saw
Wesley Jones (Kingsport, Tenn.) cap a four run fourth inning for Milligan with a two run homerun to give the Buffaloes a 4-0 lead. Brevard scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth, but Milligan added two runs in the top of the seventh to take the victory.
Hilton was 3-for-4, while Kirk was 2-for-4. White ended the game 2-for-3. On the mound, freshman
Ethan Fleenor (Johnson City, Tenn.) recorded the victory. In five innings of work, Fleenor allowed just one hit and struck out four batters.
With the pair of victories, Milligan improves to 16-13 overall.
The Buffaloes return to AAC action on Saturday, March 26, when they travel to Athens, Tenn., for a three game series with Tennessee Wesleyan. First pitch for Saturday's doubleheader is slated for 12 p.m.
