Milligan College, Tenn. (Mar. 19, 2011) --- The Milligan College baseball team wrapped up an AAC series sweep as they defeated Virginia Intermont in two games on Saturday afternoon at Anglin Field. The first game saw Milligan take a 3-0 victory, and the Buffaloes took the second game by a score of 9-2.
In the first game,
Kyle Kolat (South Bend, Ind.) scored off of a Corey Hilton (Johnson City, Tenn.) triple to give Milligan a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. The Buffaloes added two more runs in the third inning off of a Cobra error.
On the mound, AAC Pitcher of the week
Jason Trivett (Bristol, Tenn.) pitched a complete game to get the win. Trivett gave up just one hit and struck out three batters.
The second game saw the Buffaloes score six runs in the third inning to take a commanding lead.
Tyler Hutson (Church Hill, Tenn.) added a run in the bottom of the fifth, and
Luke Kirk (Gate City, Va.) and Kolat scored two more runs in the sixth.
Kolat led the way at the plate with a 3-for-4 performance with two RBIs, while
Bart Roark (Mountain City, Tenn.) was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
Dustin Ford (Jonesborough, Tenn.) and Kirk were 3-for-4 and 2-for-4, respectively.
LA Owens (Dillon, S.C.) recorded the win on the mound. In five innings of work, Owens allowed three hits and one earned run.
With the pair of victories, Milligan improves to 14-13 overall and 6-0 in conference play.
The Buffaloes return to action on Wednesday, March 23, when they travel to NCAA Division II Brevard College. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
