Bristol, Tenn. (Mar. 22, 2010) --- The Milligan College softball team swept former AAC foe King College on Tuesday afternoon to push their winning streak to 12 games. The Buffaloes won the first game 8-0 in five innings and took the second game by a score of 4-1.
In the first game,
Camille Olvey (Maryville, Tenn.) crossed the plate in the top of the first inning to give Milligan an early 1-0 lead. The top of the second saw Milligan saw three more runs, and they secured the victory with three more runs in the fifth inning.
In the pitcher's circle,
Sidney Burns (Tallahassee, Fla.) got the start and the win. Burns struck out eight batters and gave up three hits.
At the plate,
Megan Heaton (Elizabethton, Tenn.) and Olvey were both 2-for-2 with Olvey recording two RBIs.
Alicia Engle (Erwin, Tenn.) was 1-for-2 with two RBIs.
The second game saw Milligan jump out early as
Emily Biggs (Kingsport, Tenn.) drove in two runs to give Milligan a 2-0 lead after the end of the first. The Buffaloes managed to add two more runs the rest of the way to hold off the Tornadoes for the victory.
Freshman
Krista Lambdin (Knoxville, Tenn.) was 3-for-4, while Biggs was 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Burns got the win as she gave up just one earned run on four hits, and she recorded seven strikeouts.
With the pair of victories, Milligan improves to 16-11 overall.
The Buffaloes return to action on Friday, March 25, as they square off against King at Anglin Field. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
