Milligan College, Tenn. (Mar. 25, 2011) --- The Milligan College softball game split with former AAC foe King College on Friday afternoon as Anglin Field. The Lady Tornado won the first game 7-2, but the Buffalo stormed back to take the second game 6-5 in eight innings.
In the first game, King jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but the Buffaloes responded when Abbey Hughes (Rogersville, Tenn.) drove in
Jessica Fix (Chesapeake, Va.) in the bottom of the fourth. However, Milligan was unable to respond to three runs in the fifth and sixth inning.
At the plate,
Camille Olvey (Maryville, Tenn.) and Hughes recorded an RBI apiece, while
Ellyn Sapp (Johnson City, Tenn.) and Hughes had a hit.
In the pitching circle,
Sidney Burns (Tallahassee, Fla.) got the start, and was handed the loss. In five innings of work, Burns allowed four runs on eight hits and recorded three strikeouts.
The second game saw the Lady Tornadoes score three runs in the first.
Emily Biggs (Kingsport, Tenn.) hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the first to respond. In the bottom of the third, Milligan cut the gap to one run as freshman
Krista Lambdin (Knoxville, Tenn.) scored on a Fix sacrifice fly. Biggs tied the game in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings. After King scored two runs in the eighth, Lambdin drove in the game winning runs to end the game.
At the plate, Biggs was 2-for-2 with a RBI, while Lambdin was 2-for-5 with two RBIs. Freshman
Chancli Connatser (Maryville, Tenn.) was credited with the win. In relief work, Burns struck out eight batters and just three hits in six innings of work.
With the split, Milligan moves to 17-12.
The Buffaloes are slated to begin AAC play on Saturday, March 25, as they host Montreat College. The first pitch for the doubleheader is slated for 2 p.m.
