Buffaloes softball splits with Union

Barbourville, Ky. (Apr. 7, 2011) --- The Milligan College softball team split an AAC doubleheader with Union College on Thursday afternoon in Barbourville, Ky. The Buffaloes fell 1-0 in the first game, but bounced back to take a 5-4 victory in the second game.

The first game saw Milligan unable to answer a late Lady Bulldog homerun as Union scored the game's lone run in the sixth inning. At the plate, Jessica Fix (Chesapeake, Va.) and freshman Krista Lambdin (Knoxville, Tenn.) were both 1-for-3.

In the pitching circle, Sidney Burns (Tallahassee, Fla.) got the start and was handed the loss. Burns allowed one run on five hits, and recorded eight strikeouts.

In the second game, Camille Olvey (Maryville, Tenn.) and Fix crossed the plate in the first inning to give Milligan an early 2-0 lead. After Fix and Lambdin crossed the plate in the third inning, Brittany DiRobbio (Oviedo, Fla.) scored in the fifth to give Milligan a 5-0 lead. Union scored four runs in the sixth inning, but the Buffaloes held on to take the victory.

Freshman Chancli Connatser (Maryville, Tenn.) got the start and the win in the pitching circle. Connatser allowed three runs on four hits, and struck out five Union batters.

Emily Biggs (Kingsport, Tenn.) was 1-for-2 with two RBIs, while Connatser was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Fix was 1-for-3 with a RBI.

Milligan moves to 20-13 overall and 3-1 in the AAC.

The Buffaloes are slated to return to action on Saturday, April 9, when they host Virginia Intermont. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
